The triumph of the container in recent decades has also changed the packaging requirements for international shipping.

While traditional general cargo ships required completely closed and stable wooden boxes, sled packaging is sufficient for container shipping, depending on the sensitivity of the goods. The design of the carriage must take the following into account: the weight, the support surface and the center of gravity of the packaged goods, corrosion protection and the possibility of positively connecting the carriage to the container.
